I graduated from Chapin High School in 2005 and proceeded to further my education at the University of South Carolina. I graduated in December 2009 with a B.A. in Early Childhood Education.

This will be my third year teaching kindergarten. Upon graduating from USC, I began working in Richland 2 as an Instructional Aid at Langford Elementary in Blythewood, SC. After two years as an aid, I finally got the opportunity to have my own classroom at Bridge Creek Elementary. I taught at Bridge Creek for 2 years and loved my experiences in Richland 2, but I knew I wanted to be closer to home. I interviewed for a kindergarten position at Newberry Elementary and I knew I would love it! I was ecstatic when I recieved the call that I got the job! This is my first year here at Newberry Elementary and it has been absolutely wonderful!

At a Glance - Mrs. Kerry Truluck

As I teach children every day, I work to ignite a passion and a love for learning and challenge them to push themselves beyond what they think they can do. I love to see them strive to do their personal best every day so that when they leave, they feel successful and accomplished.

What I love most about teaching is forming relationships with my students and watching them learn and grow. I love being the person to help set their foundation for life as well as their academic foundation. The end of the year is the best, when you have devoted your heart and soul to each child and to helping them grow and you are finally able to reflect and see that you made a difference in a child’s life. There is a piece of you that stays with each group forever.

Favorite Book and why: The Water is Wide by Pat Conroy because every time I read it, I am reminded of why I love teaching. Teaching isn’t always about answering questions. It is about raising questions and creating experiences that open the door for them to discover things on their own.
